We started off with 13 registered boats, 8 of which were 15’ and over. A real challenge for slip assignments at Moody. The weather forecast changed, once again, to an increasing SE wind on Monday and a strong NE wind on Wednesday so Savannah, Heussner, cancelled. Carolina Dream, Echols, arrived early and was going to anchor out Sunday evening, but their generator decided to go on vacation, so they pulled into their slip that night. Good Karma, Sewell, and Knotugal, Ellor, also arrived Sunday as did a non TMCA boat, which we have had docked with us previously, Island Time. Global Solutions, Lochmann, didn’t arrive until Tuesday and they had trouble with their battery charger, which had died on them, leaving them with flat batteries.
Salty Lady, Goeschel, also arrived Tuesday after resolving an issue with oil loss in their generator.
Mystera, Tailleur, pulled in Sunday night about 9:10 pm to avoid the increasing wind on Monday. The rest of the TMCA fleet for this cruise included: Mischief Managed, Fergusson, Delta 1/11, Gerdes, Island Spirit, McGillis, Seascape, Friemel, and Island Gypsy, Odam.
A few of us took in the Holiday Fantasy show in the afternoon and we then gathered for docktails Monday evening. Following that we had dinner at the Café, on Moody Gardens first floor. They had a very good buffet and we all had a great time. After dinner some of us toured the Festival of Lights, which is always impressive and even tried a run down their simulated ice slide.
Tuesday, Lisa and I went skating on the Ice Rink and a couple hours, during the Free Members event. The res of the day was open for all to experience the many offerings at Moody, including the Ice Place: Pole to Pole, which was really well done. A few of us tried out the real ice slide and didn’t even freeze our butts. Thank God for those thick parkas they hand out. There were several 3D movies showing: Great White Shark, Super Human Body, Antarctica and Arctic: Our Frozen Planet.
Tuesday evening the wind had already picked up out of the NE and the temperature was dropping so we elected to skip the shared meal on the dock and ventured into the Garden Restaurant in the Visitor’s Center and had the buffet there, which was much better, as reported by Connie.
Right about the time we finished dinner they started the fireworks! And we had a great view from the terrace.
