Texas Mariners Cruising Association
The Largest Boating Club on the Gulf Coast
Established 1979
A beautiful fall weekend beckoned us to Pelican Rest Marina for the Fall Ball, a.k.a. the Tuxedo t-shirt and Deck Shoes Gala! Originally planned for the summer, this cruise was re-scheduled for Oct. 4th, which turned out to be the best decision all round.
The marina staff were great, at the ready to help tie up boats as they arrived on Friday and Saturday. Management at Number 13 restaurant worked with us for a nice buffet dinner on the outdoor terrace upstairs, adjacent to the main restaurant. The wait staff couldn't have been more attentive. Earlier, during the afternoon Saturday, s/v Nautilus hosted a huge gathering in their cockpit that overflowed to the dock. The crew of m/v Sand Dollar shared the most wonderful Egg Salad Caviar Appetizer that I have ever seen! Late afternoon folks started emerging from their boats all decked out in their Tuxedo T-shirts, bling, feathers, hats, cuffs and all kind of accessories! During happy hour, Gaye Lynn Zarrow quietly checked out all the 'tuxedos' and then awarded the Best Dressed Gentleman and Best Dressed Lady prizes, to JoAnn & Max Luttgeharm. And what a dapper couple they were indeed! For those 'early risers', we set up tables and shared a community breakfast on the pier, before heading home on Sunday.
Thanks to all who attended and made this event quite the 'gala'!
