Pelican Rest Fall Ball - Oct 4, 2014

A beautiful fall weekend beckoned us to Pelican Rest Marina for the Fall Ball, a.k.a. the Tuxedo t-shirt and Deck Shoes Gala! Originally planned for the summer, this cruise was re-scheduled for Oct. 4th, which turned out to be the best decision all round.

Top Water Grill in San Leon - June 28, 2014

Another great week-end and a successful cruise to TopWater Grill in Sunny San Leon took place on Saturday June 28th and Sunday June 29th. m/v Spirit with Captain Russ and Admiral Carol (Burchfield) along with Katie the boat cat departed on time / early to meet the cruise leader at south boaters cut at 10am. Spirit was early by about thirty minutes to the south boaters cut and the cruise leader Jim was late by about twenty minutes. With the 20 knot winds from Seabrook to south boaters cut, Spirit a 32' Nordic Tug, took some air into their main engine intake in the high seas and had to re-prime to get the water flowing again. Spirit and Almost Paradise .5, a Rinker 260, departed south boaters cut around 10:45 for a noon arrival at TopWater with plenty (6' plus) water along the way and into the marina.

Moody Gardens - May 24-26, 2014

Once again, we had a full marina at Moody Gardens for our Memorial Weekend Cruise. Some boats arrived on Friday, whether heading straight for an additional night in the marina, or taking advantage of the great breeze and anchoring out for the night in Offatts Bayou.

By mid-afternoon, most boats had arrived, so we got the party started with Bahama Mamas on the dock. Now, I know that tradition says the chef is supposed to sample his own cooking before serving, but it appears that Moray may have over-sampled, if the strength of the last batch of rum cocktail was anything to go by!!! It was great to see so many people there, some arriving by land yacht, and others who were spending the weekend anchored at Offatts Bayou.

Buffalo Bayou - March 22, 2014

Another great morning on Buffalo Bayou! This is the fourth year that this cruise has been scheduled, and continues to be a popular one. We use Bayou City Shuttle which rents us the kayaks and equipment, or offers to transport your own personal kayak/canoe.

22 people joined us this year. We had single and double kayaks and two canoes. Bill Crabb brought his handmade wooden canoe which classed up the cruise!

We put in at Woodway and 610. This year they are doing some updates to this area, but we had no problem getting started. This is the perfect time of the year, the weather was great, new leaves were coming out on the trees, and azaleas were blooming throughout River Oaks.
