For three years now, while many TMCA cruisers were heading down to Harborwalk for the holiday weekend, other TMCA'ers were heading across the bay to Oak Island at Double Bayou. So as we are currently getting close to 4th of July holiday weekend, NOW is the time to get signed up for the Oak Island 4th of July Cruise (Double Bayou Bash IV)! I see from the website that the Harborwalk Cruise has three sign-up options depending upon how many days one wishes to stay at that destination, but this Oak Island Cruise has only one official option, and details are below.
Minus a couple of slips that the Double Bayou Bash IV organizers need to have for their own purposes, I have all of Beason Marina reserved. (Slip fees are only $25/night!) So please read all of the information below, take a look at the embedded links for photos of previous year's events, and then if you are interested in participating in this fun weekend, celebrating our nation's 241th birthday in great small-town style, now is the time to get signed up on the website registration page (starting on May 18th).
s/v Silhouette will be heading over on Friday morning, departing Marker 2 probably around 0730. (Please contact me if you are a Double Bayou newbie and need leading.) Per the poster above, the organized local festivities are on Saturday afternoon (with the fireworks Saturday evening) and the rest of our time there can be filled with dinghy exploring up either the East or the West Forks of the bayou, bike exploring around the town, eating and/or imbibing at either Channel Marker 17 or at The Hurricane, walking over to the Frascone Winery, or fishing from the docks! This is planned as a two-night (Fri/Sat) cruise, but you are certainly welcome to either arrive earlier, or stay longer if you are so inclined. (You could even depart Oak Island on Sunday morning and make it down to Harborwalk as part of the "B" cruise!)
(NOTE: Since for the previous three years we have not filled up all of the available slips for this event, and since I really would like to do that, this event is also open to non-TMCA members. (We might even be able to get them to join!!) So if you know someone who would like to be part of the weekend fun they will have to contact me directly since they will not be able to sign up on the website.)
